چکیده

XIMIT is a newly developed method for precisely measuring the 2D migration of a hip socket implant using standard radiographs. 2D migration is the change of the 2D distance between implant and bone observable in the x-ray image. It is measured in order to judge the fixation of the implant in the bone. The proposed method is based on a carefully designed measurement of the 2D distance minimizing the influence of different sources of errors. The magnitude of the entering errors is minimized by estimating the implant’s 3D orientation and position using the CAD model of the implant and by involving a state of the art template matching algorithm. According to the first error estimate, the new method makes a migration measurement with a standard deviation of about 0.2mm possible.

Growth and Characterization of Iron Nanowires Into Anodized Aluminum Oxide Templates Using Electrodeposition Technique

The Fe nanowires were prepared by Ac electrodeposition method. The two steps anodized aluminum oxides (alumina) were used as templates for electrodeposition of magnetic nanowires. Sulfuric acid was used to anodize aluminum. The pours diameter and growth rate of alumina were investigated. The FeSO4 electrolyte was used for growth of nanowires. The prepared magnetic nanowires were characterized b...

Precision of distance determination using 3D to 2D projections: The error of migration measurement using X-ray images

The goal of this study has been to objectively and reliably estimate the precision of measuring 2D migration of hip prostheses. This is the distance change over time between the implant and the bone observable in X-ray images. To reach this goal, a generally valid scheme for determining the standard deviation of distance measurements in 3D to 2D projections has been worked out. The scheme was a...

Magnification error of digital x rays on the computer screen.

Templating x-rays of total hip and knee replacements pre-operatively are important to plan surgery. This is usually done using acetate templates of the prosthesis on hard copies of the x-ray. With the change in practice, to use digital x-rays on computer screens instead of hard copies, it is important to assess if acetate templates can be used for digital x-rays on the computer screen. This is ...

2D-3D reconstruction-based implant migration measurement

This paper presents a phantom-based study for validating a newly developed 2D-3D reconstruction-based method for measuring implant migration after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Based on a mock-up setup, three different methods were used to determine the cup orientation with respect to the anterior pelvic plane (APP) of a plastic pelvis: (a) the optical tracking method; (b) the fiducial-based me...
